Social Media in 2009

In April this year Justin Rains of Portal Planet invited us to attend Daniel Johnson Jr.'s New Media Cincinnati. We attended our first one in May '09. Loved it and haven't stopped attending since. This group has lead to other social meetups and most recently the Social Media Holiday Party 09 put on by Michelle Beckham, Julie Sweeney Bogart, and Anne Castleberry.

For the last 7 months we have connected with most of the members via LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. It has been one of the best groups we have ever been a part of. The members are passionate about social media. Intelligent, Creative, Computer Literate, innovative, interesting, caring, and resourceful are just a few of the words I would use to describe them.

When we meet face to face it seems to deepen our relationships. Then in between we stay connected and follow updates that help you to know that person more. Looking forward to see what 2010 has in store for Social Media.

The Logo, The Tattoo, The Story

So many people have asked about the logo, so here is the story behind it.

For as long as I can remember I have always been interested in the old west. Old west movies, old west firearms, and old west (Victorian) clothing, horses, cabins, and the outdoors. Rough and rugged.

There are two images that really symbolize the old west. The American Bison, and End Of The Trail sculpture.

About 10 years ago I had a tattoo artist create a tattoo with two symbols. Then I used a photo of my tattoo to create the logo.

Family portraits make great personlized presents. Don't know what to get grandma and grandpa - I bet they would love a framed photo or even a unique family portrait gift. You can order something special with your family portraits on it - how about a mouse pad, official TOPPS playing cards, coasters, cut out statue, etc.

A family photo shoot is a great experience. You spend an hour or more laughing, smiling, and playing together. How great to be able to capture those images that will last forever.

Posted recently on The Motorcycle Enthusiast forum on LinkedIn was “The best way to be seen”. Ideas ranged from bright clothing to LED lights. Someone posted that they were doing a review of a Strobewise product. I checked out the Strobewise website. Strobewise is a rear-facing, LED, blinking amber light. So I made the comment that for $250 it better do more than blink. A representative of Strobewise got onto the forum explaining how it works. He then offered to give two units out to members of the forum for an unbiased review. I explained that I have been riding motorcycles for 24 years, a member of the Iron Butt Association, and all around gadget geek with XMradio, blue tooth, GPS, radar detector, and Kuryakyn lizard lights on my bike already. To my surprise they chose me to review it. Within a week I received the unit.

I was a little surprised that it was a two piece unit and had an 8 wire harness attached to it. I was wondering what I had got myself into. After reading the enclosed pamphlet, I then realized that we would only need to use 3 of the 8 wires (positive, negative, and speed sensor wire). The hardest part was finding the speed sensor on my bike. Strobewise engineers did send me the location of the speed sensor and a photo of it. But I needed the location of the other end of that wire under the seat for my particular installation. I was able to gather the information I needed from badweatherbikers, which is a forum all about Buells. There are other helpful forums out there for any particular bike.

Then I installed the unit. For most people, installation would probably be best suited for their dealer. Then I went for a test drive having my fiancĂ© video tape me while following me from behind. What I found was that the unit doesn't do more than blink – BUT, it's "how" and "when" it blinks that makes it unique. The brains of the unit has inertia sensors that monitor vehicle speed and deceleration. The unit blinks at various rates depending on the rate of deceleration. No input from the rider or the brake is required. The unit reacts to slight changes like letting your hand off the gas. It is a smart unit. I'll consider it the ultimate “Back Off” alert to following motorists.

Old West Festival

We recently donned our old western attire, grabbed our cameras, and headed to the 1800's.

We heard Indian flutes & gunshots. We ate Wyatt's pulled pork & homemade potato chips. We saw villain melodramas & a town that is much bigger than you would expect. We had a great time!

Festival times and hours are Saturdays and Sundays running September 12 to October 11 from 10 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The Festival is located at 1449 Greenbush Cobb Rd, 45176 between Mt. Orab and Williamsburg, Ohio just off St. Rt. 32.

Late night

Last night, about 10:30pm. I was out with the dogs under a full moon and looking at the tobacco. It reminded me of a song from the movie "3:10 to Yuma". A great movie.
Because in the morning they are going to hang the tobacco.
And yes, all 4 shots where taken at 10:30PM.
