Red-tailed Hawk

The Red-tailed Hawk's feathers are considered sacred by some Native American tribes.

One way you can tell if they are Immature birds is if their irises are yellowish. As they get 3 or 4 years old the iris turns reddish brown.

The Red-tailed Hawk is generally non-aggressive toward people and toward other birds. Which was apparent as I got about 5 feet from it and it's food. It didn't leave or ask me to either.

The prey they catch ranges from beetles to rabbits which are double their size. Sometimes they eat 5 ounces a day.

They are beautiful and interesting to take pictures of. When you look into their eyes - you just wonder what they are thinking.
